Response #4 to Blog Post
The film, “The Big Lebowski” seems like an interesting movie. I viewed the trailer, because I have never really heard of this movie. I didn’t know what to expect, and the response made sense once I watched the trailer for the movie and read your (Zach’s) review. In the trailer, you could tell that the theories of humor really stand out. The film in general doesn’t really seem to make any sense, but this is in a good way. This nonsense makes it very funny, which shows the incongruity theory. There is just a lot happening all at once and seems all kinda random. The constant joking around and making fun of each other in the trailer really shows the superiority theory. Also, no matter how weird the scenes are or how inappropriate it looks, there seemed to be a little bit of relief theory inside, making the scenes more humorous. Along with watching the trailer, I watched a scene from the movie titled, “You're Entering a World of Pain Scene”. These scene takes place in a bowling alley. Many things happen in this scene. The three theories of humor are expressed. First off, the constant name calling between the characters. Along with the mocking to the one guy about bringing his dog to the bowling alley. Second, there is just random nonsense going on the scene. You don’t really understand what's going on during it but you can’t help laugh, thus, showing the incongruity theory. Third, the relief theory is show in the scene because throughout all of the arguing and the mocking of one another, there are a couple lines that provide relief in the scene. Overall, I feel like this moving could be very interesting. I don’t know if it would be the first movie I would reach for, but it looks really good!
I liked how you discussed all the elements in different aspects of the movie. Although this probably wouldn't be my go to movie I like how you still were able to find a way for the movie to work for you and your personal sense of humor.
