I have never heard of the show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend before, but after reading Julia’s blog post on it, it sounds really good. After reading a summary of what the show is about along with watching the trailer for the show, I could get a better understanding about the show. It focuses on this girl Rebecca. She is unhappy with her life and an ex boyfriend comes back into her life and she ends up moving to California to follow this guy. By moving it makes her life ten times happier than it was. The show is also a musical, so her story is also told through music. From watching clips of the show, I think one of the funniest things about the show is the musical numbers. The musical numbers/songs really show the incongruity theory. When listening to the song, you think it is going to be a normal musical song being motivational and all but in reality it's not. The song is almost poking fun at the main character and pointing out her flaws. The songs in the show seem to be almost like a par...

I have never seen the movie of What We Do in the Shadows, but I did look up the trailer along with the best clips from the movie. I would have to agree with you on how funny it is. I watched the trailer and a couple clips and I laughed out loud. Its is just a couple a vampires and their life. There is a film crew that follows them around in their daily vampire life.  I was taken back on how funny just the trailer was and a couple of the clips were. I wasn’t expecting it to be that good. The movie seems to follow a “mockumentary” style, which really reminded me a lot of The Office . From just the trailer and some clips the humor seemed to be very similar to the show. The main characters in the movie are VIago, Deacon, Petyr, and Vladislav which really reminds me of the main characters from The Office ; Dwight, Michael, Jim, and Pam. The camera crew seems to follow the main characters around in the movie just like the TV show. Between the two, the humor theory that really stick...

I don’t think anyone could get tired about hearing about the the TV show, “The Office”. It is known for its great use of its dry humor and satire. After learning about the theories of humor, The TV show portrays the theories very well throughout the series. I did not start off as a fan of “The Office” right away. I didn’t really understand it at first. Now that we talk about it so much in class and it is very popular in society, I have learned to enjoy it a lot. So I agree when some people love it, and some people have it at the bottom of there queue on Netflix.  I would have to say though, that the fire drill clip is one of the funniest scenes I think. There is no better way to describe and analyze this TV series, than the Incongruity Theory and the Superiority Theory. I would have to agree that Jim, Dwight, and Michael show and use the two theories the most. Most of the Incongruity theory is show throughout the show by the three characters, but in the episode with the fire...

Within comedy, there are three theories that try and explain the essence of comedy. These theories explain when we laugh and why we find things funny. The three theories are, the incongruity theory, the superiority theory, and the relief theory. The relief theory provides relief to the viewers, usually reliving a fear or nervous energy. The Superiority theory is when people laugh at one's misfortunes. Usually when someone gets hurt. It dates back to Plato and Aristotle. The Incongruity theory helps explain the main reason why we laugh at jokes. It usually explains that we laugh at two things that don’t really go together. Something weird and crazy has to happen for us to laugh. There are many persuasive accounts to help explain this theory but I think the account that best fits it is Kant’s account. In the reading of Lippitt, he states that laughter is something that arises out of something unexpected. He also explains that usually it is reduced to nothing. So us as the viewers...
