Response #5 to Lead Blog Post

The Vines that Nikoleta posted are quite hilarious. It brought back some nostalgia to when Vine was the thing of our generation. Vine was the place to get a good laugh and was a place to make fun of people. I would have to agree with you when you say that almost every conversation with friends groups at the time used to always have a Vine reference in it. Now that Vine may not be as popular, it still is somewhat alive through other social media. Personally, it was never my go to social media but I enjoyed it at the time. Every now and then the Vines find a way to pop up in a newsfeed, and there even still being made as you mentioned. I watched the Vines that you provided and they are very funny. I think my favorite one is the Eggs one. It was about this “chicken” laying its eggs. The man came up to the “chicken” to take the eggs, and the “chicken” gets very upset because he took his eggs. It seems so stupid but it is so funny. This video is a prime example of the theories of humor. Most importantly, it shows the incongruity theory. It shows this by it just being so random the content. It is so weird and so unexpected that is really shows the theory. The other two theories are also present in the video as well, superiority and relief theory, but it is not show as much as the incongruity theory. I also would have to agree with you when you mentioned that the benign violation humor is also present in the videos. It is shown throughout the dialogue. Overall, Vines may not be the most popular but they still bring out a good laugh. They also are the perfect piece to show the theories of humor.

  1. I really like what you had to say about my blog. I also really like how you brought up the superiority theory in the Eggs video, as the humans are showing how they're better than the chicken.

  2. I was also nostalgic thinking about vine being in the past, so many great references. I like how you added the superiority theory into your response because that definitely is true since the humans were saying how they could just eat the chicken if he was going to be mad about it.

  3. I love how many Vines still live on today. I believe it's because they relate to so many people's lives and that some of them are just so out right weird.

  4. It seems like these videos are more like skits in Vine form. I wonder how that changes the formula of their success?
