I have never heard of the show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend before, but after reading Julia’s blog post on it, it sounds really good. After reading a summary of what the show is about along with watching the trailer for the show, I could get a better understanding about the show. It focuses on this girl Rebecca. She is unhappy with her life and an ex boyfriend comes back into her life and she ends up moving to California to follow this guy. By moving it makes her life ten times happier than it was. The show is also a musical, so her story is also told through music. From watching clips of the show, I think one of the funniest things about the show is the musical numbers. The musical numbers/songs really show the incongruity theory. When listening to the song, you think it is going to be a normal musical song being motivational and all but in reality it's not. The song is almost poking fun at the main character and pointing out her flaws. The songs in the show seem to be almost like a parody. They are mocking at the point. The songs really show the incongruity theory because the theory is showing that this upsetting life she has can be turned into a funny and hilarious one. The show seems to have this depressing plot line but they use the humor theories to make the show funny. In the trailer, it also look like they use a little bit of relief theory in intense scenes to create a comical stand on the serious topic. Overall, the show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend seems to be very funny and I actually might consider watching it. It really seems like it shows the the theories of humor well, especially the incongruity theory.

  1. It is a weirdly upbeat dark humor. It almost seems to push bast darkness into just a straight up whacky and weird celebration of how crazy we all are.

  2. I agree that it is a great use of incongruity. I also like your points about the songs as parodies.
